Bafana Bafana Held To Congo Draw

Bafana Bafana played a goalless draw against Congo in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match on Wednesday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.  The game started off with a slow pace as heavy rain continuously poured throughout the match.  South Africa was the better side inside ten minutes as Tokelo Rantie played a wonderful ball into the box but the Congolese cleared the ball.

As the home side was continuing to give the visitors trouble, Thulani Serero was brought down in the final third and Mandla Masango took the free kick by playing it to Sibusiso Khumalo but the Supersport United left back blasted it wide off the mark.  Shakes Mashaba’s charges showed more hunger as Thulani Hlatshwaya tried to deliver a cross but his shot resulted to a corner kick on the 17th minute.

The Red Devils showed no sign of wanting a goal as it was the home side all the way in the first stanza.  The visitors started well in the second half as Eric Mathoho was compelled to clear a dangerous ball in Bafana’s box after some wonderful play by the Congolese side.  As Claude Le Roy’s side started to control the proceedings the home side was forced to do the impulsive decision as the likes of Khumalo and Hlatshwayo were cautioned in the process.

The game proved to be somehow a dull affair but Masango nearly snatched a late winner but his goal was ruled for offside and the spoils were equally shared at the end.
