Australia’s Baggy Greens

Australia are the most successful team in the history of the Cricket World Cup.  The Baggy Greens have triumphed on four previous occasions (1987, 1999, 2003 & 2007) and will be looking for a fifth crown on home soil.  This ambition is especially amplified when taking into account their woeful showing in 1992 on home turf when they failed to reach the semi-finals.

In fact the Aussies suffered a disastrous campaign in 1992 losing three of their first four matches and never recovered.  If they are to avenge that horrific performance they will look to the likes of George Bailey with the bat and the combined talents of Mitchell Johnson and James Faulkner among others.  All three are ranked highly in the ICC Player Rankings.

Australia are in Group A alongside England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Scotland and co-hosts New Zealand.  The Australians will begin their campaign at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against the English on Valentine’s Day.

Prediction: Winners
