A Rohit Sharma century was not enough as Australia defeated India by four wickets in the second ODI of the tri-series on Sunday in Melbourne. The tourists won the toss but struggled to get going and dropped to 59/3. However Sharma kept it together smashing 138 from 139 balls.
Sharma was ably assisted by Suresh Raina, who scored 51, in helping India post a competitive 267/8 in their 50 overs. Mitchell Starc was outstanding with the ball for the home side as he claimed 6/43 in his 10 overs. In reply the Australian chase was defined by healthy partnerships.
Aaron Finch was well supported by David Warner, Shane Watson and Steve Smith. Finch fell for 96 with the hosts on 219/4. Needing another 49 from 9.5 overs, the lower middle order and tail finished the job at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
