The English Premier League saw Liverpool suffer a shock 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday. An early attack by Liverpool saw Lazar Markovic take a shot at goal but the ball but went too high. Markovic had another chance in the sixth minute but his shot missed to the left.
Philippe Senderos missed Villa’s first attempt at goal following a corner. Gabriel Agbonlahor’s close range shot put the Villans in the lead making the score 1-0 in the ninth minute. Adam Lallana was shown a yellow card for a bad foul before Sendero’s right footed shot missed to the right from a headed pass for a corner from Alan Hutton.
Mario Balotelli fired a long range shot but his attempt was blocked. Half-time arrived with the visitors a goal up. The second half started with the Reds fighting to find an equaliser.
Philippe Coutinho’s shot at goal was blocked. Balotelli managed to head the ball following a corner but missed to the right. Brendan Rodgers’ side kept on trying to come out with a goal but their attempts were continuously denied.
Jordan Henderson’s header was too high following a corner. Raheem Sterling replaced Lallana before Hutton was shown a yellow card for a bad foul. Sterling missed an attempt as his shot went too high and wide.
Dejan Lovren headed the ball but missed to the right following a corner as the hosts pressed without any joy. At full-time Paul Lambert’s men were the victors by a goal to nil.
