Arsenal Wins At Bournemouth

Arsenal beat Bournemouth 2-0 at Dean Court on Sunday to strengthen their contention for the English Premier League title.  The Gunners went into this match feeling the pressure of closing the gap between themselves and top of the league side Leicester City.  The visitors showed the Cherries they meant business from the very beginning of the match and had the better half of possession and played plenty of passes.

The London side went ahead in the 22nd minute through a Mesut Oezil goal when Olivier Giroud headed the ball into his path and he finished on the volley.  Shortly after the restart, after scoring the first goal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled Arsene Wenger’s boys’ lead with a shot he took from a very tight angle which hit the post and went into the bottom right corner of the net.  Wenger’s boys went into the break two goals ahead and Bournemouth were struggling to get back into the match.

The second stanza was a lot better for Eddie Howe’s lot as they had a bit more of the ball and fought back hard to score through counter-attacking football.  The away club on the other hand was defending a lot better than usual, and Petr Cech was on form as he made plenty of crucial saves to keep them on the front foot.  Bournemouth failed to score and Arsenal left with the three points.

The away win for the Gunners puts them into third place on 48 points, the same amount as their rivals Tottenham Hotspur.  Bournemouth remain 15th with 28 points, still fighting in the relegation scrap.
