Arsenal smashes Stoke City 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in the English Premier League as they moved to fifth place. The Gunners started like a house on fire as they opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a good cross from Alexis Sanchez and Laurent Koscielny finished off with a great header. In the 12th minute the hosts suffered a set back as Mathieu Debuchy was replaced by Hector Bellerun after he was pushed into the advertising board.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s shot went wide of the goal posts in the 15th minute as the visitors were all over the place in the early parts of the game. Olivier Giroud had an attempt at goal but his shot was saved by Asmir Begovic as the score was still 1-0 after the 30th minute. In the 33rd minute Sanchez’s brilliance gave the home side the second goal of the match as Mark Hughes’ men were firmly on the back foot.
In the 44th minute Peter Crouch was clean through but his shot went straight to the goalkeeper as the match went to half-time 2-0. In the second half Arsene Wenger’s side continued where they left off as they were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area but Sanchez’s free kick deflected off Stoke’s wall and the ball rolled into the back of the net. Wenger’s boys continued creating chances but they weren’t clear cut and Giroud was replaced by Mesut Ozil as he was given a standing ovation as he was coming from a long injury lay off.
In the 79th minute Sanchez put Theo Walcott in a good position but his shot went wide of goal as the score was still 3-0. In the 84th minute Ozil’s right footed shot went over the bar but the Potters had two shots at goal themselves that came from Stephen Ireland and David Ospina. It would come to nothing as it finished 3-0 to Arsenal.
