Arsenal crawled back into the Uefa Champions League group phase after a 1-0 win over Besiktas in their second leg playoff at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. The game started at a slow pace with both teams having chances but not finding the target during the first half. Just a few minutes before they went to half-time Alexis Sanchez scored his first goal for the Gunners and handed them the lead at the break.
The second half produced more cards and less goals as Arsene Wenger’s side finished with 10 men when Mathieu Debuchy was sent off for a second yellow after hauling back Mustafa Peklemek. Besiktas kept pressing for an equaliser but none of their efforts reached the target. Arsenal controlled the possession but were unable to break through for a second goal, but in the end it did not matter as Wenger’s boys will play in the group stage yet again.
