A brace from Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Watford in the English Premier League at Vicarage Road on Saturday. The Gunners had an early chance to take the lead in the fifth minute when Theo Walcott squeezed passed Sebastien Prodl and Craig Cathcart to meet an Aaron Ramsey cross however his glanced header found the skipper. They went on to have two more goal scoring opportunities through Sanchez and Ramsey however Quique Flores’ side did show some promise with some strong defensive play and a chance by Troy Deeney that did not quite come to fruition.
The Hornets had a great chance to go in front when Ighalo found himself with just Petr Cech to beat but the forward struck it poorly and let the chance go a begging. There were plenty of opportunities for both sides at either end but no one was able to find a breakthrough as the half ended goalless. In the second stanza Arsene Wenger’s men started similarly to the first 45 as they had another decent chance in front of goal but were denied by Prodl.
However just past the hour mark they opened their account with a counter attack with Sanchez slotting home for the lead. In the 68th minute they doubled their lead when Olivier Giroud converted a Mesut Ozil cut back to make it 2-0. The final nail in the coffin came seven minutes later when Sanchez bagged his second of the match after some poor defending from the hosts.
At the end of the 90 Wenger’s men ran out 3-0 winners as they moved up into second place. Flores’ charges find themselves in 14th place.
