Arsenal hammered Hull City 4-0 at the KC Stadium in their FA Cup fifth round replay on Tuesday night. The Gunners thought they had taken the lead after just two minutes but Theo Walcott’s finish was chalked off as he was offside. The next big chance of the game fell to Hull as a free kick into the box caused a goal mouth scramble and the ball came out to David Meyler, but his shot was expertly saved by David Ospina.
The visitors dominated large periods of the first half and finally took the lead on 40 minutes as Meyler attempted a back pass across the face of his goal that went straight to Olivier Giroud who slipped the ball through Eldin Jakupovic’s legs and into the back of the net. The first chance of the second half fell to Steve Bruce’s boys as a cross from Ahmed Elmohamady saw Aaron Ramsey almost head the ball into his own net but it just went wide. Arsene Wenger’s men then made it 2-0 on 71 minutes when a deflected cross from Walcott evaded the defender and fell straight to Giroud who made no mistake in volleying home.
Five minutes later it was 3-0 as a delightful ball from Joel Campbell found Walcott running in behind and he finished well with a curling shot past the goalkeeper. The scoring was rounded off on 88 minutes when a Walcott shot was deflected off Alex Bruce and wrong-footed Jakupovic to beat him at the near post. The game finished 4-0 as the holders march on to the quarter-finals.
