The reality of relegation is becoming more and more likely for Golden Arrows after falling 1-0 to Bidvest Witsat the King Zwelithini Stadium in an Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday. Abafana Besthende suffered yet another defeat as they remain rooted at the bottom of the log. Sthembiso Ngcobo’s 13th minute strike after being set up by Sibusiso Vilakazi gave the visitors a one goal advantage early into the match.
As always the case in most of their games, Arrows saw much of the ball but failed to convert their chances. Moeneeb Josephs was superb in goal to keep his side in front heading to the break against an unpredictable home side. The Durbanites were by far the better of the two sides early in the second half much to the delight of their fans.
In the 62nd minute Chris Katongo jumped the highest inside the box but his tame header went straight to the keeper’s hands. Ngcobo came close to increasing the lead for the Clever Boys in the 69th minute but Arthur Bartman deflected his shot to the bar. Both teams continued to trouble each other’s defence towards the final minutes of the match.
However there would be no changes to the scoreboard as Gavin Hunt’s men held on to win the match 1-0 as Arrows suffered their 17th loss of the season. Wits are now eight points adrift of table-topping Kaizer Chiefs with seven games to go.
