Golden Arrows bounced back from a defeat last time out to beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Absa Premiership encounter at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday. The home side took the lead in the opening five minutes after they were awarded a penalty for an unfair tackle in the area which was converted by Mabhuti Khenyeza. Both sides searched for a way to gain the stranglehold on the match but neither was able to make anything count in the final third.
Chances came and went abegging as both teams’ attacking opportunities were finding the woodwork or not coming close to the target. The atmosphere of the game was not as smooth either as both sides were allowing some indiscipline to creep into their game. After the break Khama Billiat started an attack that led to Themba Zwane drawing the Brazilians level with a right foot shot.
The men from Pretoria were sparked into life and went on an attacking spree with attempts from Keegan Dolly and Billiat. However it was the Durban side that once more took the lead through Ryan Chapman who latched on to a Deon Hotto pass and found the back of the net. Abafana Bes’thende held on to bounce back from their defeat prior to the international break running out 2-1 winners.
The victory saw Serame Letsoaka’s men jump into the top four in second position level on points with log leaders Mpumalanga Black Aces. However Pitso Mosimane’s charges remain in eighth place without recording a point on this occasion.
