There was another medal to be won by South Africa on the lawn bowls greens in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday. Susan Nel, Santjie Steyn and Esmé Steyn added a bronze to the gold (with Tracy-Lee Botha) they earned in the Fours earlier this week, when they led throughout to beat Wales 23-14 in the play-off for the medal. A five on the first end did no harm and from then they were in control.
England thrashed an out- of-sorts Australia 22-4, but consolation for the losers was that it was their first medal – an amazing statistic given Australia’s pre-Games hype and expectation. For the Proteas it meant with the Women’s Pairs gold medal match to come, they were clear in the medal table with four gold and two bronze.
