Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has won the 2014 Kremlin Cup title after a hard fought 6-4, 5-7 and 6-1 victory against Romania’s Irina Camelia Begu in Moscow. The sixth-seeded Pavlyuchenkova won the match after two hours and 28 minutes to record her second victory against the 61st-ranked Begu. The 23-year old also became the fourth Russian woman in the tournament’s history to clinch the title.
The final started off tensely and seven breaks of serve ensued in the first set before Pavlyuchenkova managed to settle down. The 30th-ranked Russian bagged the opening set in 50 minutes but it was the Romanian who completely dominated the second set to break serve twice and level the match. The match looked like it could go either way going into the final set with both players showing hunger and fighting to win.
In the final and deciding set the hometown heroine stepped up her game to break twice for a comfortable 5-0 lead guiding her to the seventh title of her career.
