Former world number one and 2008 Roland Garros champion Ana Ivanovic is through to the semi-finals of this year’s event after a straight sets quarter-final win over Elina Svitolina on Philippe-Chartrier Court on Tuesday. Ivanovic will make her first Major final four appearance since winning her only Grand Slam title to date in Paris seven years ago. The Serb defeated the Ukrainian 6-3, 6-2 in the French capital.
Ivanovic needed 75 minutes to down the 19th seed. The seventh seed will be unhappy about her six double faults but did win 77% of the points on her first serve compared to Svitolina’s woeful 48% Although the Serb committed 30 unforced errors, she more than made up for it with her 37 winners.
The 27-year old will face either Lucie Safarova in the semi-finals. The Czech defeated Garbine Muguruza 7-6, 6-3 in the other quarter-final on Suzanne-Lenglen Court.
