Amir Khan Wants Mayweather
After winning “The Fight of the Century” against Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather announced he will box one more time in September before calling it a day. Should the American win in four months’ time he will equal Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 record. But who will be the last opponent to line up against The Ring/WBA/WBC/WBO welterweight champion?
Britain’s Amir Khan might yet solve the enigma and riddle of who’s going to be rapped up as the Michigan man’s final rival. Khan is backed by a solid phalanx of True Brit fans and amenable cohorts of TV networks, with the potential to earn him and Floyd a bob or two. The Brit says: ‘I believe Mayweather’s team wants this fight and I also want it. I’m sure I can defeat him.’
Tough talk, but Khan must first defeat Chris Algieri on May 29 at the Barclays Center to position him as the principal potential usurper.
