The South African National Under-17 team, Amajimbos, wasted no time in getting down to business as they continued their preparations for the 2015 CAF Under-17 African Youth Championship. Amajimbos arrived in Niamey, Niger on Sunday – almost a week before the start of the tournament – in order to acclimatize to the extreme weather conditions in this tiny West African nation. The South African Under-17 national team held their first training session at the Niger Federation technical centre on Monday morning under roasting heat as temperatures reached 32 degrees Celsius.
The team trained on an Astro Turf as some of their matches during the tournament will be played on an artificial pitch. “The boys are now settled and we are on track with our preparations. There is still work to be done as the boys need to get used to this extreme heat,” said coach Molefi Ntseki. Amajimbos will play their last friendly match ahead of the tournament against Niger Under-17 on Tuesday, 10 February at the Municipal stadium, which is one of the two venues for the 2015 CAF AYC.
Kick-off for the friendly match is scheduled for 15:30 local time.
