Ajax Cape Town suffered a 2-0 loss at Harry Gwala stadium as they visited Maritzburg United in Pietermaritzburg for an Absa Premiership clash. Terrence Mandaza showed the opponents that they mean business by heading the ball close to the net but the ball went to the far left in the early minutes of the game. Tasreeq Morris then took a shot which fell directly into the hands of Shu-Aib Walters.
The match proved to be a tug of war when Heinrich Isaacks’s shot was saved by Anssi Jaakola by using his feet. Abbubaker Mobara’s unfair challenge resulted in Rheece Evans being awarded a free kick. Evans was unlucky yet again being fouled by Morris which got him being awarded another free kick. Half-time saw both teams heading to the lockers with no goals at all.
The beginning of the second half saw Bongolethu Jayiya scoring a goal for United after finding a beautiful opening. Koen Van De Laak came in to play by replacing Carl Lark. The Dutchman then missed a header when the ball passed to the right. Nazeer Allie got booked for unsporting play which saw Maritzburg being awarded a penalty. Allie conceded the penalty for a foul on Nhlanhla Vilakazi which in turn saw United getting their second goal of the night, and from that point on there was no turning back for Steve Komphela’s men.
Walters made a couple of great saves that contributed a lot for the Team of Choice, who helped themselves to all three points on a bad night for Roger De Sa and the Urban Warriors.
