Orlando Pirates won the first leg of their 2015 Orange CAF Confederation Cup tie against Uganda Revenue Authority at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. The home team took the honours by two goals to one. The Buccaneers dominated the first half and had the most shots on goal, possession of the ball and scored a goal too.
Pirates took the lead in the first four minutes. The goal was snatched by defender Rooi Mahamutsa. A well taken set piece ensured a good start for the home team. In the first 12 minutes, URA’s defence was non-existent.
In the 13th minute, the visitors grew stronger and began to have their share of failed attempts. The hosts gave too much space to their opponents and lacked in the middle, allowing the away side to take possession of the ball. The Sea Robbers ended with only the one goal advantage at the break.
The Ugandans came back a lot stronger in the second half, dominating the midfield but still not able to score any goals. The second half was intense for both teams, yet it took until the 85th minute for a breakthrough. Lehlohonolo Majoro scored a second goal, assisted by Sifiso Myeni as it looked like Eric Tinkler’s side would be comfortable going into the second leg.
However, in the last minute of added time, Happy Jele scored a header at the wrong end to hand URA a glimmer of hope ahead of the return fixture.
