Mpumalanga Black Aces managed to come from behind to hold Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night. The first 45 minutes of the match began at a slow tempo, but soon charged up and Pirates took possession in the midfield largely thanks to Khethokwakhe Masuku. Masuku created the opening goal of the match in the 23rd as Lennox Bacela got in behind the Aces defence. The striker then squared for an unmarked Sifiso Myeni who tapped home.
Cliver Barker’s men were not ready to go down without a fight and they started applying pressure on Pirates in response to Myeni’s opener. Nine minutes after going behind some brilliant work down the left side by Thabo Qalinge saw him beat one defender on his way to the byline before playing the ball across the face of goal for Zamuxolo Ngalo to prod home and level the score.
Amazayoni appeared to be taking control of the match being the better side, but unfortunately they could not add to the score line as the match ended in a 1-1 draw and both teams splitting the points. The result means former Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic was unable to bounce back after the Soweto Derby defeat on Saturday.
